Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, Boston

Our Mission
To uphold and continue the traditions of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, carried across thousands of years.
To leave the next generation in high moral standing — to be my brother’s keeper and my sister’s keeper, and to know Ge’ez, along with the Ethiopian language and its writings, in the best tradition of the Church.
To follow the example of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who paid the ultimate price, giving his life so that we could be redeemed.
To be of service to our Ethiopian community and to society at large, and to contribute to the wellbeing of all we come into contact with.
Our History
For twelve years the congregation gathered on Sundays in rented space in Cambridge, near Central Square. In 2001 the Church came into a home of its own.
The building was consecrated on June 19, 2001 — Sene 12, the feast of Kidus Michael — and blessed by Abune Zena Markos. Worship has continued here from that day to this.
Getting here took many hands. Members gave their time, their labor, and their money, much of it quietly and over years. The church standing today is the sum of that giving.
In 2014, on Dagmawi Tinsae — the Sunday following the Resurrection — the congregation arrived to find soot covering everything inside. A fire had begun in the boiler room during the days the building sat empty, and it had gone out on its own. Nothing burned. Not one thing was charred or buckled, after what should have been a devastating fire. The fire department came and could not explain how it had stopped itself.
We call it a miracle.
